Our Clinic and Adoption Center have different hours.
Clinic: Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm. Also open on two Saturday mornings per month and one Wednesday evening some months for vaccine clinics. See https://awanj.org/hours-and-directions for more details.
Adoption Center: Tuesday-Friday from 12pm-7pm and Saturday and Sunday from 12pm-5pm.
AWA was founded in 1948 by a small group on individuals who wanted to address and help the problem of unwanted pets in our community. In our adoption program, we have dogs and puppies, cats and kittens, rabbits, and small animals. Call 856-424-2288 or email us at info@awanj.org for more information.
Does anyone know of any free or discounted vets in the south jersey area? Some orphaned kittens were left on my porch 2 days ago and I'd love to take them to the vet to get checked out. They seem like they're thriving and are okay but I know diseases can be silent or present no symptoms.
My vet I take my cat to said they couldn't really do any discounts even though they were orphaned newborns. I've called a few shelters to ask for advice and they say I should call animal control. I can't really afford the 100 dollars just the visit at this moment in time.

Try contacting Animal Welfare Association of NJ--they likely have resources even if they can't take the cats. https://www.awanj.org/
Hi! I'm looking for recommendations on where to adopt a rescue kitten / young cat - I'm helping my parents with the process. I've read good things about the AWA in Voorhees, but would appreciate any first-hand recommendations or insight anyone is willing to share. Thank you.

I chose to volunteer at AWA because I love the work they do! I also foster kittens for them. So I would wholeheartedly recommend them. But I'd give them a few days to bring more kittens in since they were all adopted on Saturday during the "Clear the Shelters" promotion! You can check their website every day before they open at noon to see how many kittens they have available for adoption that day; it's updated every day! And if they're not insistent on a kitten, I'd recommend an adult cat so you'll be sure of the personality and friendliness of it before adopting.... plus they'll save $30. for cats over 6 months of age. Good luck! awanj.org 🐱
I had wanted to volunteer in the kitten room, I did the training before but not sure if it had to be up to date. Who do I get in contact with about volunteering?

Brother Wolf appeals to animal shelters in Northeast: “Help us save dogs and cats in South Carolina”. We’re trying to find more partners to help us save dogs and cats at-risk in the South Carolina shelters affected by floods. If you know any animal shelters up north who might help, please share this with them or comment here. Click the link for more.

SHARED...There are two no-kill shelters in my hometown of Voorhees, NJ...I believe that one works with Sarge's in Waynesville for placements up north and it wouldn't surprise me if you've already worked with them before. Victoria Santa Maria & Lauren Soanes, any ideas? www.awanj.orgwww.vaonj.org
Where is a good place to get a dog fixed? We are on a budget and need to get my Payton fixed she is a Old English Bull dog and just turned 1. We acquired her and her brother from a family that could not care for them. Please I want a place that won't cost a bunch but will also care for her. Thanks in advance

Awa in voorhees..awanj.org the best..they do rabbit alters also !!
Someone please remind me... Did I read on this page, or a similar one, that a local vet or animal hospital/rescue could use linen donations? I have a ton of gently used sheets, pillows, etc. and it seems a waste to throw them away. Any recommendations? Thx.
Any suggestions on a great place to ADOPT a dog? Any shelters near the area? My family and I are looking into adopting but are very skeptical after a terrible horrific experience with trying to adopt from Pets Plus in Delran.

Do any of my facebbook friends have a kitten or even a young cat that they want in a good home? My daughter and her roommate are looking for one - she misses her cat here at the house. . . .
Jeannie W. replied:
AWA in Vorhees always has kittens. AWANJ.ORG. I also saw one on the electronic bulletin board at work too. If it doesn't work out at Del Val, let me know. I will check tomorrow.
most affordable vet recommendations? I really want to not spend my kids entire inheritance but my cat really needs to be seen, poor thing. Thanks all!
Jen L. replied:
I haven't found anywhere cheaper than AWA. https://www.awanj.org/ I take mine to House Paws and highly recommend them, but they are not the "cheapest."
I have a friend looking for a loving home for their two chinchillas. They have had them for many years but with a toddler in the house they just don't have the time to give them the attention they need. Does anyone know a rescue or chinchilla lover that would take them? They MUST have experience and love for them, not just someone who thinks they're cute (which they are!)
Jen L. replied:
Oh man! I would love them so much, but we're overfull here. My daughter is in love with chinchillas. The AWA in Voorhees does take chinchillas if they have room. I would give them a call. They had two when we first started volunteering there. http://www.awanj.org/
I'm looking to get my dog neutered. Recommendations on where to go, both for the best price & safety.
Jeanie W. replied:
Hands down AWA in Voorhees ! Awanj.org for pricing and info. I have had three fosters altered there. Ace of Spays I have heard is affordable also but do not have first hand experience .
Any recommendations for a reasonably priced vet? I have a dog and a cat, no frills, just a good place for a yearly checkup :) thanks!
Jeanie W. replied:
I use Evesham...Office visit/exam $50 each pet. I have heard great things about House Paws mobile !. Be sure to checkout AWA clinic awanj.org . They are non profit and rely solely on donations to subsidize their.community services including the clinics. Not sure if they do well care visits.
Anyone know of a cheap vet I have two female dogs that need to be fixed but I only have a small income.
Amber J. replied:
awanj.org click on their reduced price programs and has something under that about fixing a pit if I recall, I had a cat I'd found was gonna fix him and then put him back out so didn't keep reproducing and awa does a feral program they were ones someone referred me to for feral cats
Amber J. replied:
Animal welfare association, it's never extremely cheap but they are very good priced!
Amber J. replied:
Then it's gonna cost a fair bit if not current on vaccines, animal welfare association is where I'd start, although I can't vouch for kind of quality you will get, as mine go to regular vet.
