I hired Elaine to make 6 bridesmaids dresses ($150 each) and 3 vests ($75 each) for my wedding. My bridesmaids kept telling me there were issues but it wasn't until after the wedding that I saw what they really meant. I was mortified! There isn't a single straight hem, a single finished edge or a single well-made item in the bunch! The armholes and/or straps didn't even match! My son's vest won't even hang straight on the hanger! I was required to buy my own fabric and Elaine told me exactly how much and what kind to buy. That wasn't included in the price. There was also supposed to be crinoline - lots of it - under each dress. Turns out, there was ONE layer that wasn't even gathered before it was stitched to the dress (Sewing 101) AND it was attached at the top of the skirt, giving my beautiful girls a SHELF around their waists AND I had to pay EXTRA for the crinoline! Not being able to be at everyone's fittings, I had no way to know how horrendous the workmanship was. Luckily, I was having a themed wedding (Alice In Wonderland) so my girls used belts and jackets to help hide the flaws. UNluckily, the dresses started falling apart BEFORE the wedding even started!! I have contacted her to work out an agreeable solution to which she replied that her work was guaranteed. When I refused the $150 "refund" she offered for over $1,000 worth of unacceptable work, she refused to respond further. It has now been over six months since I returned her check. I am a good person with a good heart but I can't let her do to someone else what she did to me. There shouldn't be much bodice work (it's corset style), but I am short so will need a lot of hemming. I'd prefer somewhere close to North East/Rising Sun/Elkton/Newark DE area. December 23 wedding.
