Anyone you call will probably tell you to put it back where you found it if it isn't injured. Snapping turtles are a nuisance in Colorado, so you can pull an unlimited number from the water and raise them as pets of your own, if you wanted to take this rare opportunity... but you can do your due diligence and call cpw@3032917227

I would not just release it, depending on how long you've had it. It might not know how to live on it's own anymore. If you contacted the aquarium they should be able to point you in the right direction.
