When my other mother, Wilma Weipert was living there full time, she had Century Link. It was very reliable and we were able to set up wi fi so all of us could tap in. Sorry you had a bad experience with their customer service. They are usually pretty good about getting problems solved for us. You might think about reporting the experience(s) to them and see what happens.

I use Century Link in the summer for Internet and landline. I get mixed results but when it works it works well. Wish we had cell service for emergencies.

Hughes Net has worked well. We got it because it was not dependent on phone lines as our were washed away. Of course if there is no power, it will need a generator.

I use DSL Extreme. They charge $19.95/mo for the first year of 6Mbps service. Very reliable. Good tech support and customer service, After 1 year, it goes up to $29.95/mo, which is still pretty cheap. There are also cheaper (and slower) packages available. Check out their website, www.dslextreme.com. And if you decide you want to sign up, they have a refer-a-friend program whereby we'd each get a $20 credit. But to take advantage of that, you'd have to let me know you want to do it, so I can send you a referral email through their website, which contains the sign-up link you have to use in order to get the $20 credit. It's not a fortune, but it'll buy a nice dinner! And as I said, the service is quite excellent.

When I was at a small VFX studio (10 full-time employees,) we used a company called Towerstream that was pretty affordable. It's an odd service because it's wireless only (I think over 4G networks?) I believe they do the same upload/download speed at no extra cost. They would also let us scale up service when we staffed more freelancers for bigger projects, and then we could scale back down when we went back to 10 employees. Could be a high installation fee because they install a microwave (?) receptor, but it was affordable in comparison to other business service plans. I have read some negative reviews, but we didn't have trouble with their connection in Hollywood. Worth looking into!

Hey, just get a TMOBILE hotspot. I live right by your center and get great service and their wifi is super fast and super cheap. I'm honestly not sure there is one. We have Time Warner. It was reasonable at first but about a year ago they kicked our monthly up by twenty bucks. Verizon is the devil. If you're just doing normal browsing, DSL Extreme might be a good choice. I had to cancel with them ten years back because their service is highly filtered and I needed unfiltered access at the time, but the company is good. One concern is that many established service providers for tech stuff believe the hype about Silicon Beach and therefore they want/need to provide services here comparable to what is "offered" in the South Bay below SF. People like me may think the designation Silicon Beach is just a developer's advertising scheme. However, the influx of so-called app and sw companies is not trivial -- right here in my local geographical area. I doubt the Sonic.net offers the same/equivalent services here in the LA area that they offer in parts of the South Bay below SF. -- but I don't know and any alternative to time warner cable sounds appealing.
