Has anyone on here dealt with a trainer or behaviorist in the Philadelphia area? Sorry if this isn't allowed, I'll happily delete it if it isn't.

[NorthStar Veterinary Services](http://www.northstarvets.com/mobile/behavior) in Robbinsville, NJ has a wonderful behaviorist named Dr. Bergman. Dr. Reisner has a practice in or near [Media, PA](http://www.reisnervetbehavior.com/contact/) - she is one of the most experienced and respected veterinary behaviorists in the world. Lastly, the [University of Pennsylvania](http://www.vet.upenn.edu/veterinary-hospitals/ryan-veterinary-hospital/services/behaviormedicine) has an incredible behavior department - they work out of Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital. I’m sure any of these doctors can recommend a great trainer! Good luck!

I've worked with [Philly Dog Training](http://www.phillydogtraining.com/dog-training-behavior-modification.html) and so have many of my friends, all with very good progress. Some of their behaviorists are also very highly recommended by people from Penn Vet. I personally worked with Jacqueline.

U Penn vet school has a behavior clinic that we have been clients of and we were happy with the advice we got there. I believe Dr Reisner used to be on staff there.

I have similar issues with my dog, and I have been working with a behaviorist at Penn Vet Ryan Veterinary Hospital. They have been great so far.

Reactive Dog - Any Tips or Recommended Trainers? Mods, I can wait to post this in the casual Friday thread if this doesn't fit sub rules.
I'll keep the backstory...

[Gold Standard Pet Services](https://www.facebook.com/Gold-Standard-Pet-Services-and-Kennels-LLC-100689531674780/) - Bridget Stewart is a trainer for the Penn Vet Working Dog Center. I have personal experience with her with 3 separate dogs, and she is fantastic. She will come to you, and train your dog (and you) in your environment.

Fellow owner of a leash-reactive dog. Honestly, the biggest difference-maker for us was getting our dog on mediation to help with her anxiety. Her reactivity (we think) comes from her anxiety and we noticed a difference once she was on medication. We used Dr Hagar Hauser at Metropolitan Vet Hospital in Norristown. She also owns a reactive dog and she really understands how hard it can be. Our dog currently takes Reconcile which is just a brand name drug for fluoxetine. It’s been about 6 months now and the progress has been really good.
We also used At Attention Dog Training in KoP for ‘live’ training which also helped with giving us practical tips and tricks for what to do when we encounter other dogs on walks and reactivity becomes an issue.

What have you tried when you say positive training hasn’t worked? If your dog is food motivated, have you tried bringing a bag of treats on walks for counter-conditioning? Kikopup on YouTube is legit and has a lot of videos on counter-conditioning. For a local trainer, CJ at Bad Dog Good Dog training is really good and she’ll travel to you (or at least she did pre-pandemic). My dog used to be a banshee on walks and counter-conditioning has helped a ton. We regularly get comments from people about how well-behaved he is now.

Reactive dog owner checking in. We’ve done the gentle leader, and front clip. The front clip works best for us as he can jump when reacting to triggers and the gentle leader became dangerous if he lunges. I also recommend doing clicker trainer. It’s worked better than giving a watch me command when he’s too hyped up from a trigger.
We’ve done group classes at Philly Unleashed and they have a specific class for reactive dogs to teach impulse control. We also did a 1 week board and train at their farm in NJ.
What really made a difference was fluoxetine. Same situation as another poster. It brought his anxiety down just enough to make some progress with our training. I am trying to get an appointment with Penn Behavioral Vet because our dog has regressed recently.
