I'm going to London next week and wanted to know if any of you had any recommendations for good vegan restaurants, central, there? I'm going with meat eaters so I could handle a restaurant that has good vegan options too. Thanks :) x

I've also heard here is amazing http://www.vanillablack.co.uk/
Can anyone recommend a good vegan restaurant (or vegetarian - vegan friendly) in central London (Piccadilly, Covent Garden... )? It's for a party. Thanks :)
Ro M. replied:
Oh - just seen that others have already recommended tibits! But no-one has recommended Vanilla Black, which is upmarket vegetarian and caters for vegan readily. http://www.vanillablack.co.uk/

Vanilla Black is very upmarket, around £45 including service charge for three courses, and they require you to inform them if you're vegan when booking. When I went there three years ago the vegan choices (without pre-notice) were atrocious. But my meat eating friend loved it. It's one of those places like Saf, some people love it, some hate it. Everyone loves Tibits and Mildred's, which are half the price and the food is just as good for veggies and much more vegan options without pre-notification. I've heard reports recently of a vegan menu at Vanilla Black, though it's not on their website, and some upmarket vegans who loved it, though still plenty who would never go there again. Having said that, Tibits was pretty bad for vegans the first two years, despite copious feedback from hundreds of vegans who went there once, and now it's great for vegans (though some of the hot dishes that could easily be vegan still are not), so I'd love to be able to write that Vanilla Black has got lots more vegan options too and that they no longer regard vegans as slightly annoying. Any vegans been there this year?
Steve W. replied:
Given the atrociousness of Vanilla Black towards vegans when they started ("No, we don't offer vegan dishes - we're a Vegetarian Restaurant") I'll only consider checking them when the good reports start rolling in. I'm impressed that Tibits is now (apparently) 80% vegan plus the 100% vegan-every-10-days thing.

I've eaten at Vanilla Black in the last few months and they do, indeed, have a vegan menu. I'm surprised to hear bad reports from them - I've never had any problems and neither have vegan friends I've taken there. It is expensive, though. I don't like Mildred's for lots of reasons. I love Tibits.

I love Tibits - especially on a summer's evening if you get to eat outside under all the fairy lights. Seen wedding parties in the room downstairs there. Mildred's is just a pain 'cos of the no booking but if you hire a room it's fine - my friend had her wedding party there. I went to Vanilla Black back when it opened with veggie food group and wasn't too impressed. Haven't been back since and that was a long time ago - so it may be better. Dunno if people have wedding parties there. :D (I do know this isn't a wedding party).
Do you have a favorite restaurant in London?
If you can answer YES to the above I would DIE to hear from you. Drop me a line below and I will love you forever!
