  After living 3 years in Scotland, I would strongly recommend not spending much time on cities ( I would say if you there only a week, Edinburgh is the only city worth visiting) but explore beautiful Scottish nature! You can go up north, the area next to Fort William is truly breath-taking. There is famous Harry Potter bridge there as well http://crianlarich-hotel.co.uk/scotland-in-a-week/harry-potters-hogwart-express-bridge/, which might be pretty exciting for kids, Loch ness - again stories about the monsters are always fun for kids!
