Hey all! As part of our renovation, we are looking to improve our electricity bills. We use baseboard heat with wall dials as our primary heat source and have propane for the fireplace and stove. A winter electric bill is about $500 for a month for a 2000 sq ft home. I had an energy auditor come and provide me with an energy audit of my home, which he rated at 76% and said could be improved to 84% by installing an air source heat pump and a gas-fired hot water on-demand unit. H said the windows and insulation in roof and walls were fine, no real heat loss spots. So we had a mechanical installer come by and have a look, only to negate the recommendations of the auditor saying that the heat pump wouldn't work here in the winter and the hot water on demand would require extensive venting which would not make it economically viable. $500 later and no definitive outcome.... What efficiencies or alternate sources are you using that have actually made a noticeable improvement?
