I'm looking for some feedback if anyone has or had any horse with Equine Motor Neurone Disease (EMND). My big guy Crosby 17.2 Irish sports cross. Over the last 4 months or so has been a bit clumsy as I thought falling in his stable. Since April this year he has lost around 40KG!!! I know it's a lot but we have got his weight up from a loss of 107KG!!! I know this does not sound good at all and there will be people out here thinking that I am neglecting my horse. (Which is not the case). He is vaccinated/teeth up to date and we have had a worm count carried out with everything coming back fine. He kept all his weight on throughout the winter but now as you can imagine doesn't look like he should. He has lost a lot of muscle tissue from his back end. We contacted the vet who came out last week and took blood samples as they thought that initially there could be a problem with his liver function which turned out that everything was fine! The vet then said that they wanted to come back out to do further checks. (They came out today) 3 vets in total came out one of which was a large animal specialist (Mexican girl who studied in the states) they carry out their tests take him into the arena carried out some groundwork with him and came to the conclusion that his hind leg coordination wasn't right. When they were flexing him his legs wasn't returning to its natural position. More so the right. They took further bloods to check for low vitamin E levels. So they said that without doing a muscle biopsy they can't be 100% butt hey are 99.9% sure that he has EMND. As you can imagine it has put the fear of death into me and I was wondering if anyone could possibly put my mind at ease.
Thanks.
