About us
With more than 12 years experience in journalism, photography, writing, graphic design, editing and communications, Jake Davies Photography & Communications is your one-stop shop for multi-media work.
Photography: I spent nine years as an award-winning photo-journalist covering a wide-range of assignments including spot news, breaking news, event photography, sports, portrait, studio and much more. I took two years of photography training at Algonquin College. From crime scenes, fires, weddings, events, children, pets, landscapes to almost anything else you can think of - I've taken a photo of it.
Writing: Nine years experience writing for newspapers (The Arnprior Chronicle-Guide, The Cobden Sun, six EMC newspapers covering the City of Ottawa) in every style imaginable including hard news, profiles, sports writing, multi-part long-form format, magazine format, blogs, editorial and advertorial. Three years experience writing in the education industry creating press releases, website articles, brochures, publications, technical writing and manuals.
Graphic design: Twelve years experience designing broadsheet and tabloid newspapers, magazine-style publications, brochures, newspaper ads, website ads, posters and newsletters. If you want it printed or published to the Internet – I can design it.
Editing: Seven years experience as a newspaper editor for The Arnprior Chronicle-Guide, The Cobden Sun and the six community-based EMC newspapers covering the entire City of Ottawa from Kanata to Orleans, Manotick to the Market overseeing a staff of five full-time reporters, four graphic designers and a small army of freelance writers and photographers.
Communications: My full time gig is being the sole member of the Renfrew County District School Board’s Communications Department. I write all press releases, lead internal and external communications, manage the board’s website as well as oversee the 31 schools’ websites, the board’s Facebook page and Twitter feed. The... show more board has more than 1,000 staff and nearly 10,000 students covering all of Renfrew County and the towns of Whitney and Madawaska.
