It will be our first time visiting the Blue Ridge area and we are looking forward to it very much!! We plan on spending a majority of our time at the cabin, but what else is there to see or do? What are some must see places or activities to do within an hour drive of Suches or near Blue Ridge? Where can we drive or take a short hike to an awesome mountain view? What are some water related activities we could do to keep cool in the summer heat? (Our cabin also sits directly on the Toccoa River) Any festivals or similar events going on anywhere the weekend of June 24-26? What about a farmers market or a flea market nearby? Or a good place to stop for a meal? Sorry about all the questions. Google isn't giving me much info so I figured I'd ask the locals. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!! :)Buffy T. replied:Hi Rachel. There are some good waterfalls within pretty close proximity to where you will be staying. Please go to www.blueridgemountains.com, which is the Fannin County Chamber of Commerce website. On the left side of the page, look for a button labeled 'Self Guided Tours'. Those are some awesome maps! You will find waterfalls, hiking, a map of downtown, driving tours and more. Also, as mentioned, the Swinging bridge is great but be aware that the road getting there is very rough and is being worked on. There's probably an advisory on the chambers page. Any input is appreciated!Mandy G. replied:When is she coming? If you drive North on Hwy 19 to Hwy 5 through the Blue Ridge mountains it's really pretty this time of year. There are lots of lookout stops and even a few places to grab a bite to eat along the way. Could probably get away with the cost of a tank of gas and she could sit majority of the time.
