  My lab Ilya had a mast cell tumor removed at South Paws as well when he was 10. He got a second one when he was 12 and we treated it holistically with Neoplasene, which is a root extract that attacks Mast Cell tumors. We gave it to him orally and it basically shrunk it to nothing. It would flare up every now and then but he was almost 12 at that time and had lost a leg to OsteoSarcoma at 8 so we didn't want to compromise him by doing yet another surgery. I would definitely look into that as an option for a 10 year old. It can also be applied topically and it will leave a hole which will then heal.   Lucky, despite consistent effort on our part and monthly grooming is battling matting again and constant hot spot type issues. We need some advice and a good groomer in bethesda area. We are trying probiotics and Benadryl but poor dog is in a cone way too much. I'm at home and he gets good exercise, love, and attention. Thanks in advance!

  These are things I would try. Change the diet to no grains, one protein, you can try Instinct Kiibble they have a one protein turkey. Or look on the site I added at the end of the post and go raw.There are so many choices now with raw dog food and it is easy to use and store. I buy patties but if you go to a holistic dog food store, try Bark up on Rockville Pike, they have a huge selction. Start giving the dog coconut oil maybe start a teaspoon and go up to a tablespoon. I would try this for a good 6 to 8 weeks before you might see a change. Just doing this can make a huge difference. If it does not there is a holistic vet in Bethesda, mine was amazing she just retired out here in Howard County.
