  If you are willing to experiment with an innovative approach, try Inanimate Alice (inanimatealice.com), a transmedia storytelling project. I am working with the project in the role of instructional design consultant, so I'd be happy to give you some guidance if you're interested in using it. It's aimed at the middle school to early high school set and goes beyond graphic novel to create an interactive reading experience.
