I need some help and who would know better than members of this awesome group! Here is the problem; I need to adjust the valves in my 68 VW. Sound easy, right? It was when I was driving it to work 35 years ago and before our 16 year old son (now 38 years old) & I had the engine rebuilt with a high performance engine (We are the original owners of the car - my wife drove it to HS 45 years ago). Once I did that, I stopping doing the maintenance/oil change myself and always took it to a shop in So-Cal and they maintained it for me. Well, I am now retired and moved to Utah 5 years ago and the valves and oil change needs to be done. When I got the oil, getting ready to adjust the valves, the rotor cap was completely different!! Yikes!! OK, here is the question; How do I know I have my rotor set on the #1 cylinder to I can begin to set the values at .004 intake & .006 for exhaust??? I can't even find a marking on the shaft to know I am aligned with the #1 cylinder and my old "How To" book is confused also. Any help or suggestions are appreciated!!
