Removing wall-mounted AC unit from rowhome? I recently bought a rowhome built in 1920 and it has an ancient AC unit built into the wall of the 2nd story master bedroom. (The house was empty for 2 years before I moved in so the level of grime and dust was INTENSE.) The AC unit turns on, but the rattling is so loud that I'm not sure if it's really working or too inefficient to even bother, and after hours of cleaning it is still filthy. I have called so many HVAC companies to see if they can come out and either service or remove it, but nada.
I'm wondering if this is a job for a contractor. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good one, or better suggestions for how to approach this? Is a contractor even the way to go?
Thanks in advance!

If you're interested in replacing it (as opposed to removing it and getting the wall patched up), [try Jarman](http://www.jarmanairconditioning.com/). Their website looks like a relic from 1999, but they did a wall unit replacement for a family member last summer and the work was quick and professional. We considered trying to replace it ourselves first but found out that the current standard sizes are different than they were 30 years ago when the thing was installed, so it wasn't as easy as taking the old one out and popping a new one right in.
