Looking for some assistance from Chicagoland SHO Owners:
My dad would like to get his 93 SHO (278K miles) running again. Problem is it won't run smoothly; Starts and even idles OK with slight accelerator assist but when I go to use enough power to move the vehicle, it bucks and kicks & sputters - engine runs unevenly and with no real power unless I literally floor it, and then there is still a miss.
He’s tried local dealers (Woodfield/Rohroman Fords expert SHO mechanic left) and hasn’t had much luck with people saying their able to diagnose/fix. Joe Cotton Ford said no one knows how to work on any car without the diagnostic equipment so they do not want to try. Bottom line is he does NOT believe this is a serious problem, He had the crankshaft position sensor replaced a 4-5 years ago and got a new ignition module and replaced the old one (sort of on the front if intake manifold).
Ultimately he’s looking for a good mechanic that is familiar with SHO’s and can work on it. The spark plug wires should be good but I have not checked the spark voltage from each (I believe one coil per 2 cylinders) - the problem has to be something related to spark, timing or ignition.
Any recommendations?
