About us
Jewel Call lived by love and instilled within others the importance of loving one another. In the early 1960s, Jewel opened her first salon in Tacoma, Washington and later grew her business by adding two more locations which she ran for 25 years. The foundation to her success was her focus on excellent customer service combined with positive employee relations. With the nickname Sarge, Jewel was known as a tough boss, but was strong on love, praise and advice.
Following in his mother’s footsteps, in 1982 Jack Call opened the doors to the first AVEDA Concept Salon on the West Coast with the dream of developing a creative team of well-educated and highly trained individuals who shared his passion of spreading love and beauty. Originally located on 6th Ave in Tacoma, JAX moved to downtown Gig Harbor on Judson Street. In 2008 JAX moved to its current location on Harborview Drive while simultaneously expanding into a spa. Jack humbly dedicates the last 30 years of success to his mother’s inspiration and mentorship.
As a third-generation hairdresser, Jack’s son, Austin Call, works side-by-side with his father in hopes of continuing the family legacy of Jewel Call.

The basis and philosophy of Jax Salon + Spa encompasses our guest experience. Jack instills in every employee the ideals of customer service and the importance of going above and beyond with every guest’s experience and service. In addition to customer service, education is our fundamental foundation for all service providers. Not only is Jax Salon + Spa a training facility for fresh talent to be positively mentored, but a community where service providers are highly encouraged and supported to enrich their career with education. Our team has trained not only in Seattle, but also has received education in New York City, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Boston and even Europe.

Allie F. asked:ISO a great hairstylist who is able to work with someone with very thick and very curly/wavy hair. My hair is at the top part of my lower back and it is just too much for me to manage. Please don't just tag or refer me to your friends. I have had my hair butchered more times than I can count and bc of it I haven't had my hair cut in about 2 years.
