  We run our own accounts and payroll using a package called freeagent (http://fre.ag/35 codlw1). So simple all we need our accountant for is annual auditing (as we're LTD). We use Anderson accountancy in bath who we deal with via email (http://www.anderson-accounting.co.uk)

  not sure what type of freelancer you are, but as a small business (of 2 working in web) i really rate freeagent http://fre.ag/35 codlw1 - our accountant, (http://www.anderson-accounting.co.uk) audits straight out of freeagent - our end of year was around £600.
