  We have a unit here on the coast that we want to start renovating. It has a very ugly vermiculite ceiling that needs to be scrapped back and redone or made smooth. Can anyone recommend somebody who can do that? We can't batten down and sheet as it'll bring ceiling height to low.

  Yeah it can be scraped off and textured. It looks a lot better than vermiculite. As for it being smooth, being the the ceiling is a concrete slab they are not inheritly flat anyway so texturing is probably your best option.
