  oh, the store is actually called 'tailoress'. it's (sadly) not someone doing it on the side out of their house - i have similar feelings to you re: it once being more common to see people having this skill. this shop did a great job, though! http://tailoress.ca/

  i went to tailoress on roncesvalles to get some alterations done and to get some clothes made - they were a bit $$, but did a great job.
