Independent Bookstores With Coffee Shops Attached
I want to support independent bookstores more than I do. While I do buy books from independent bookstores, I have found myself heading down to (shudder) Chapters/Indigo more often than not, because of their coffee.
The thing is this: my wife and I both write, and we have an eighteen month old daughter. A trick we have is to pile into our car and drive. While Vivian sleeps, Erin writes on the laptop. We head to a bookstore with a coffee shop attached so *I* can write while Vivian runs around the shelves and plays in the kid area. And so far, that has limited us to Chapters/Indigos in Burlington, Ancaster and London (we live in Kitchener). Then we pile back in the car and drive back; Vivian sleeps and Erin writes.
Most of the independent bookstores I know don't have places to write, and most plain coffee shops aren't very kid friendly. Any suggestions for breaking the Chapters/Indigo monopoly in the GTA?
