This is an eco and child friendly & family run arable and fruit farm. :-)
It is in the Natural England’s ELS scheme, where areas are sown with wild flowers etc. to encourage wildlife & bees – hedgerows are also kept for wild bird nesting sites.
Plots of bare soil are left in arable crops to encourage skylarks to nest and breed.
Strawberries are grown in the traditional way in soil outdoors. with little or no insecticides.
However, if necessary, biological control of pests are employed. Bees are kept to assist pollination.
Many varieties are grown to cater for the different tastes. Not everyone agrees which is the sweetest variety, so a selection of types are grown, particularly for the “Pick-Your-Own” enthusiasts!
The farm shop, which is open throughout the year, offers a wide selection of seasonal fruits & vegetables – with a particular emphasis on locally produced goods and products.
On Saturdays, during the strawberry period (usually between May and August) cream teas, homemade cakes & snacks are served in the marquee, overlooking the beautiful Vale of Somersham, also known as “The Parks” – where it is believed that “Hereward the Wake” used to hunt.
