So me and some friends are travelling to japan this august 6 until 19. We thought it would be a good option because the flights are very cheap. So we have already booked everything. I thought, as naive as I was, that I would pick a hot time, yes, but a not so crowdy, because I read that Obon is in the 7th month, which I thought would be July. Yeah now it turns out we fall right into the Obon holidays, which means crowds everywhere. So it is our first time in Japan and so we wanted to see the "standard touristic" sights, so Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Mt. Koya... So my questions now are: When we are in Kyoto 12 august until 17, when is the best time to visit top tourist spots like Inari shrine? Morning? So, ok we fall into super crowdy holiday season but we cant change it now so better make the best out of it and go to events, but where can I find where and when something is going to happen? Any sites? ( I can read japanese so japanese sites would not be a problem) How should we go on with transportation? We actually wanted to get a JR Pass and travel with shinkansen (yes expensive but I thought its easier for first timers) but are they all booked out?
I would really appreciate any ideas and answers.
Thanks a lot,
Lisa
