I called Sampson Plumbing to have them look at my water heater. I said that I thought it was the thermostats and not the heating elements and I wanted him to look it over. He mentioned that he would like to replace the heating elements at the same time, even if the elements tested OK, as it would be more efficient and less expensive to have it done all at once. I instructed him to call me before he went to my house and call me after he had looked at the water heater and we would "go from there." He did not call me until he had, without my permission, replaced the thermostats without talking to me first.
Due to poor communication on the part of the owner of Sampson Plumbing I ended up having to call him for a return visit when, if he had called me before doing the work like I asked him to, we could have discussed my options again and I would have instructed him to follow through as he had advised and replace the elements and the thermostats all at once.
Now, because he didn’t feel like making a simple phone call I wound up owing him nearly $400 for a simple $150-$200 job because he charged me for two separate visits. I called and explained that I was upset over the need for the return visit and he said that it was my fault, he would get his money either way as "there are ways around it if someone doesn't want to pay their bill," and he hung up on me.
His worker also left a horrible mess in my basement. Gallons of water everywhere. It took me forever to clean it up because they left without telling me and it sat there like that all day.
I would strongly advise you to go elsewhere if you need a plumber. This was a horrible experience.
