  Hi all, thanks for welcoming me in to the group! I'm moving over to Japan for a university exchange in Machida this September through to March 2015 and was wondering if anyone has any MUST-SEE festivals/sights/special places that are particularly wonderful during this period of time. Open to all and any suggestions. Also, has anyone visited the Okinawa or other (sub)-tropical, remote, islands to the south and have any input on which they found particularly lovely or really made their experience something that extra bit amazing? Thankyou so much for your comments and ideas, really appreciated :)

  I noticed our friends here are recommending very faraway places for you to go to lol. May not be realistic, unless you have a lot of time on your hands, and have the money to spend. As Machida is near Tokyo, and near Kanagawa, I am posting the festivals/events for these 2 prefectures. You won't have to spend much to travel to these places.
