  Gail - If you don't want to be IN the heart of the very touristy TamaGringo - you might want to consider http://HotelBulaBula.com in Playa Grande where you can take a Water Taxi between there & Tamarindo to do some things there - but have the tranquility of Bula with an AWESOME restaurant (I've been there about 1/2 a dozen times)!! They usually have some sort of Special in August (though you might have to ask).
