Their properties looked nice and the agents were polite, but their customers service was abysmal. I was shown a property still under construction (Ripped down to the studs) and a little while later I decided to risk it and put in an application. There wasn't any way to apply through the website (and I wasn't sure I had the right site- their business uses 2-3 different names), so I tried to call.
I got Kayla and left a message with her to give to Sophie who apparently handles the property. I wanted to know if the property was still available and if so, how could I go about applying for it? She said she'd pass the message and call me back. 24 hours later and I hadn't heard back so I called again. Kayla recognized me and apologized saying she'd have Sophie call me back that day. Sophie did not.
I called back 3 days later and gave my name and why I was calling. Kayla pretended not to know who I was, then told me they had taken a deposit on the property. Obviously, this made me angry as I'd been trying to simply find out how to apply for the place for about a week. Kayla's excuse was that their "Phone and internet had been having trouble". I said that shouldn't matter because I talked to you both times I called. There was an awkward pause and she asked if there were any other properties I might be interested in.
Are you serious? This was the most unprofessional experience I've had in the 5 years I've rented in the city of Richmond. Dobrin Property Management clearly doesn't have it together. This, combined with the other negative review here, suggests that their "management" skills are quite obviously lacking.

The management is full of friendly people but they're inefficient and have no regard for your safety.
We had a break in about two months ago due to our upstairs neighbors (they sell a variety of drugs, of which our landlords have been informed of). My roommate was hit several times and we considered breaking the lease. However, the management left us under the impression that they were working on the situation with our upstairs neighbors and an attorney, but only until the point where we could no longer break the lease (essentially they didn't inform us that we had a limited time to break the lease after the assault, until it was too late and absolutely nothing was done).
Now we live under an apartment that has been raided by the police at 7am more than once, caused a break in and assault in our apartment, and constantly are having people come in and out. Not to mention relentless noise, parties, loud music until 6am, etc.
We also moved into the apartment while it was still under construction. On moving day the apartment was trashed, and we were forced to unpack on top of dirty bedrooms. The next day, however, they did a half-asked job of cleaning everything up.
Rent from Dobrin if you want landlords who don't respect your sleep habits, safety, or well being. I've lived in my share of awful apartments, but this takes the cake. I haven't had a full nights sleep in months and I've been forced to call the police on my upstairs neighbor multiple times, causing a fearful living arrangement in the building.
