  If you can get one I will happily take care of it for you (no cost), it would take all of 5 minutes. He would be better getting a string of the same brand as his other strings. Different brand strings feel and sound different, an odd sounding string can be a little off putting. As a side note I get a lot of my supplies from swstrings.com :-)

  http://www.swstrings.com/ I don't know if they rent, but we have purchased our violins from this company. They have fantastic customer service and when we had an issue with a violin they replaced it with a new one.
