  The KTX station isn't too far from Jongno and Insadong. There are a bunch of cheap motels in that area, plus restaurants and shopping. Insadong has a lot of souvenirs, art galleries and touristy sorts of things to see. The place I always used has changed names, and is now the Hotel Biz Jongro (www.hotelbiz.co.kr) I haven't been since the name change, so I don't know what it's like anymore, but it's pretty central (once you find it).
