I can't afford all these ridiculous prices that some places charge (which is probably why I'm fat!) but some ideas would be very welcome. Don't wait till you've done 'couch to 5 k' just turn up and run with us (its starting to sound like a cult now haha!)... we have an easy-pace group that caters to total beginners on Monday nights, meet at 7.25 in CP park: http://crystalpalacefunrunners.co.uk You can run with us a couple of times for free to see if it suits you. After that it's only £25 per year!

As Helen said, if you don't like running alone in the dark, why not join a club that runs in groups and sticks together, very friendly too and you will meet lots of new people.http://crystalpalacefunrunners.co.uk/ As for the running shop, the one in Clockhouse near Beckenham is the nearest, just follow Penge High Street on the way to Beckenham and you will find it.
