I feel I need to respond tothe review from Amandam Marley on 3-27-15, to clear up a few things and to protect my reputation. Yes, I groomed a Newfoundland on March 21, 2015. The dog was extremely matted on its belly, groin and back hind legs. This dog did not have the proper coat type for a typical Newfoundland. Most Newfoundland’s have a coarse top coat and a soft undercoat. This dog had long hair and a soft coat. To brush this coat in the matted areas would cause extreme discomfort and could cause brush burns on the dogs skin. Brush burning a dog usually causes infection to the skin, discomfort and requires veterinary care. Our policy at the salon is to shave any these areas out for the dog’s safety and comfort. No, I did not refund any money to the owner. I feel I groomed the dog in a timely and professional manor and no harm was done to this dog. One the phone, I was nice and tried to explain why her pet needed the matted areas shaved and was polite and professional on the phone. Yes,” Shame on me” for doing the right thing for the dog!

Will never bring my Newfoundland back to Kelly's. They shaved him because they claimed his hair was matted. You don't shave a Newfoundland. I asked them to trim his leg hair and they shaved his, along with his belly and rear, almost to the skin. This is unacceptable and should've warranted a phone call if they felt the need. This shop should stick to small dogs. We will return to our groomer an hour South of where we recently moved to because they understand how to groom a Newfoundland. I'll spend the extra money in gasoline to get a properly groomed dog and a happier one at that. Shame on you Kelly. Even after calling to discuss service, Kelly was defensive and refused to refund any money. She said she gave us a "good price" and we should be glad about that. So now I have a shaved Newfie with exposed skin because of an inexperienced groomer.
I need a recommendation for a good dog groomer in the Lapeer area. For a medium sized labradoodle. I'm learning that groomers don't stay at the same location making it challenging to be loyal to a specific grooming salon.
