Hi - I'm looking for recommendations for outings to see tulips, windmills and cheese tasting! I'm new to the Netherlands and have friends coming to visit from the USA - all of us would like to see some of the iconic attractions. Also - any recommendations for 'must-see' towns? Thank you in advance!
I live in the Hague, but departure/destination can be targeted from Amsterdam as well. (they'll have a hotel in AMS, so we're lucky with departure points :))
Timeframe: Mid March
Do you recommend tours or independent exploration?
- I don't have a car but we could rent one
I've read the flower fields are by the coast between Leiden & Haarlem - is it easy to drive up close to them to get a 'wow' view ?
I've also read about the Keukenhof gardens...supposedly spectacular. Tour, drive? Can bikes be rented to tour the gardens?
Cheese - any recommendations for cheese farm tours &/or tastings?
Windmills? Spectacular locations for great photos?
Any tips to combine the flower fields, windmills, cheese and wow sights within a couple days? :)
I'd appreciate any tips, recommendations since I am unfamiliar with all of this.
