  My advice would be to show up with paperwork and application fee in hand. The market here is crazy and apts go pretty fast. Off and on I'm a leasing agent with this company: http://www.rentmethod.com/ - you can check out their website for some listings, but typically most of the ones they have they also post on Craigslist. In general while looking, it's probably better if you can book an appointment instead of going to an open house so you're not one in a crowd of people trying to hand in your application. Good luck!
