Hi all, I'm wondering if someone might be able to help out with the following situation: A close friend's relative is in the hospital for a severe infection. He is a Canadian citizen but he has an old health card - the white and red one without photo ID. The hospital is giving him treatment however they are saying that his treatment is not covered by the old health card. Health Canada says that his new health card won't be issued to him until September. So basically his red and white card is invalid to cover him for treatment, they are saying. Which is super strange because the red and white cards are actually still accepted. They're saying they won't cover him and they will discharge him from the hospital. He doesn't have $$ to pay for his treatment. Any ideas?? How I can help this guy. Or why they aren't accepting his card..? My friend who is a nurse is saying this is a legal issue. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
