Very expensive, for the lack of a better word, sh*t, even if health insurance covers it. My dental doesn't. Does anyone have dentist friends that can offer more info on this stuff?

  You could ask a pharmacist for suggestions, and s/he should review other meds, allergies, etc. You can call MCPHS (Mass College of Pharmacy)Pharmacy Outreach Program at 866 633 1617. Ask about any discounts for these meds. There is also a drug information phone line at MCPHS in Boston, where you can get more detailed info on the drug itself. Whether or not an antibiotic is necessary can depend on the location, depth, extent of the periodontal work as well as other medical conditions in a patient.
