  Take ample rain gear, they get much more rain than Seattle although if you go in August it should be hot, it's a lovely place, wish I could live there but too spendy. What I finally found is I use my smart phone and just use google maps and type in veg restaurant and it finds the ones closest, in the process I find places like Sweet Lemon Vegetarian Bistro (excellent place) or Food Fight Grocery or Laughing Planet or Old Wives tales (not really vegan more ovo-lacto/veg) or Portobello Vegan Trattoria or Vita Cafe or the El-Nutri taco truck http://www.elnutritacopdx.com/ (wow) to name a few, or use YELP, it has some good hits, you will love Portland, awesome town ^_^
