I have recently been looking into more ethical clothing retailers so thought I would share what I have found. Still finding out lots so please let me know if you have any more info on the companies below or can recommend others. Obviously clothing has to be vegan, but I am also looking for fair trade, ideally organic cotton or bamboo which is meant to be very renewable and sustainable, and made in the UK companies which have lower carbon footprints. Of course charity shops are a great place to start, but if you can't find what you need, there are these:
Monkee Genes
Certified vegan and made in the UK by people paid a decent living wage
Rapanui
Made in the UK, lots of organic cotton, in wind-powered factories
Braintree Clothing
Have lots of vegan items and a no animal testing policy
Seasalt Clothing
Cornish company, lots of organic cotton
People Tree
Fair trade, nice cottons etc. but knitted items tend to be wool
Beyond Skin
100% vegan shoes, very stylish
etnies
Has a good vegan range of sporty shoes
TOMS
Has a vegan range of comfy shoes, for every pair of shoes you buy, gives another pair to someone in need
Nomads Boutique
Fair trade, funky hippy styles
(I am looking for a dress to wear to a wedding but have not yet found somewhere with more formal clothes, so let me know if you have any suggestions!)
