  I've been told by a leather worker who uses their versions of these to glue a leather piece to the 'anvil' that you replace periodically and you'll make them last a lot longer ... I must confess I have never done it as I mostly just cut armour straps (www.facebook.com/greenleafworkshop) ... but he's been making shoes for 30+ years so probably knows what he is talking about. :)
