I posted a while ago about a frame I was bidding on on ebay.
Well, I've got the frame and it's time to start building up, so here goes with a few questions.
I believe it's an Orbit frame with a 145mm rear spacing.
I want use a 135mm Rohloff hub, so I reckon the easiest solution is to get two 5mm shims welded in to the rear drop outs.
Any reason why this won't work ?
Any recommendations for a frame builder/aluminium welder in the Kidderminster area to do the welding ?
This should bring the Rohloff's 54mm chainline in line with the middle ring of an MTB triple chainset, or I may use a 13t sprocket and the outer ring position.
I want to use second hand parts where possible, so would like to use a single sided drive with widely available normal MTB chainsets with the primary drive on the inner ring.
Is there a reason why this is so rarely done ?
Steel 26t rings, with a shorter chain, should be lighter and wear just as well as aluminium 42t rings.
