About us
My name is Melissa Barker and I am the owner of Melkbos Pottery Studio. I am also currently busy with my Master’s degree in The cuisine of the Mesopotamians. The Cuisine of the Mesopotamians is the oldest cuisine in the world, and the recipes I am working on are from the time period of 1700BC. I am also at the same time busy with a honours degree in the ancient language Akkadian in which these recipes are written. Melkbos Pottery studio came into being because of my research, as I am planning to build the ceramic cooking pots used during the time period of 1700BC. for my Doctorate degree and then to test the recipes. In the meantime Melkbos pottery studio is a creative hub for blooming ceramists to come and experiment with different techniques and styles, no pot is too big and no idea too crazy. It is an experimental studio where new ideas and styles are encouraged and together we learn and have tons of fun at the same time. My motto in life is that Knowledge is never final, there is always something new to learn and this is what I teach in my studio.
