Hello there, I currently live in Wasilla, Alaska, but am looking to "change the scenery", and this coming summer I plan to move to Arkansas. I have some questions, if anyone wouldn't mind sharing their opinions/ suggestions that would be great!
A bit about me: I train horses & run a ranch/ farm here in AK, things are a bit different.. A lame, untrained, horse sells for 5 grand here, hay is 120$ for a 250# round etc. I currently run "Alaska Horse Ranch" (original right) and I colt break, train all western disciplines, but mainly specialize in Dressage. Also have a goat farm, and am heavy into gardening however its almost impossible to run a farm up here due to costs & non- market.
I am moving in May, and have settled upon Arkansas due to farming, industry, population, gun laws, hunting laws etc. But I'm not sure where to go! I would love to live in a small town that is 1 hour out of a larger "hub", where land is not expensive (1 acre in alaska is 30k minimum), but there is a market for farming needs. Ideally I will start up another horse ranch, expand into the meat market of cattle, and run a "mini-farm". Looking for 200+ acres. Don't want to live anywhere there is a drought concern.
Any suggestions on where I should live? Also, any "area" farming concerns/ info I should know. Thank you!
