  Mr. Ed & I got our room reserved! We'll be there a few days prior to the start as Seattle is just too awesome not to explore. Pike Place Market (been going for OVER a century) and other wonders...   I second the EMP suggestion. It's a museum dedicated to music and sci-fi that's always got something interesting going on. In addition to the Space Needle there's also the viewing area from the tallest building in Seattle, the Columbia Tower. http://www.skyviewobservatory.com/ Also, taking a ferry ride is lots of fun. They are our public transportation to the islands and one leaves right from downtown (though you're going to be on the water lots the following week). The Seattle Underground tours are cool as well as Spooked in Seattle Ghost Tours http://spookedinseattle.com/ what sort of stuff are you interested in? Food? Museums? Nature? Neighborhoods? There's lots more to recommend.
