  We have a mom looking for some advice: "My son is born in October which means he will have to wait an additional year before starting kindergarten since he won't be 5 years old by September 30th, unless we apply for an age derogation. I was wondering if there are any other parents that have done this with their kid and if they recommend/regretted it. I think my son would be ready to start school next year but I am torn on whether or not I should wait out that year for him to mature a little more. Also, I would like to know if there are any recommendations for a psychologist or psycho-educator in the West Island that would be able to evaluate my son accordingly."

  Thanks Mat! I would be happy as a child psychologist to discuss this with you. it is am important decision and you must consider each child independently. Also, the decision to derogate is not just up to parents. The are strict admission guidelines emitted by the minister of Education that we need to follow. Call me if you wish to discuss this further.
