Hired Novahata to build a deck. He always shows up unexpectedly and never discusses the upcoming work. To make a long story short, he basically broke, damaged, or improperly installed everything he touched. He incorrectly installed and damaged the composite boards. He installed the steps in a hazardous way by not attaching the steps joints connectors to the deck frame. Beam splices were in the wrong places and some of them didn't even touch the supporting posts. He improperly installed the deck tensions, damaged the concrete foundation, and drilled two unnecessary go thru holes in the wall house. He used improper screws and damaged the composite boards. Rails posts were installed in a crooked way (not in a straight line). Supporting posts were cracked by using the wrong tools. Besides that, he also broke the PECO in-ground electrical box lid and exposed the high voltage cables. He damaged the lawn, siding, and pergola. He returned the materials, paid by me to the Home Depot, and took the gift card for himself. He does not suppose to bring anyone else on my property, but he did use additional workers without employer's compensation insurance. When I asked him to fix one of the obvious things, he walked off the job and left it unfinished. And without any sense of shame, he filed a court claim against me for not paying him for the performed "work". I had to hire another contractor to fix the faults and complete the project. I still expect to incur more expenses to fix the remaining faults and damages to the property. Needless to say, he didn't win the case after I pictured proof of every and a single thing that he broke, damaged or installed incorrectly. I encourage you to think twice before hiring this contractor.

Worst possible contractor EVER!!! Nothing
was done as promised. Broke several things
in our house. Left things unfinished. Had
underage and illegal workers. Found out he’s
not even licensed or insured. Would give one
price one day and another price the next.
Would leave for weeks at a time and leave
our house in shambles in the mean time.
Took all extra materials we paid for. Never
showed receipts for anything. 1 month of
work turned into 6 and it wasn’t because we
added work but because he would leave for
weeks at a time to do other jobs at the same
time as he was working on our house!! Not to
mention they never cleaned after
themselves. Wish I never hired this guy. Total
nightmare start to finish!
Can anyone recommend a reputable contractor to finish basement? Thanks!
