  Barb, when you get to Tucumcari, www.blueswallowmotel.com is the place to stay! Still has the attached garages and really old school. A little pricey though and they fill up early. If you can't get that one, try this one : www.rte66 motel.com A king room runs about 43.95, we stayed there a couple of years ago - really 50 s,early 60 s style.
