Steph Bitter is one of regional Victoria’s favourite young indie/folk singer-songwriters, recognized for her soulful songwriting and expressive live performances. She is been influenced by artists like Josh Pyke, Daughter and Rise Against. Her songs reflect her experiences and emotions towards the things around her - sometimes haunting, sometimes exciting, sometimes dark... but always beautiful.
Steph’s love for music began when she was 10 years old, seeing Josh Pyke live in concert for the first time. After she picked up the guitar at 14, with a previous interest in writing stories, Steph found her passion in songwriting. Upon turning 15, she had written her first songs and was performing them at her local open mic nights, later branching out and playing small gigs around regional Victoria. She has caught the admiration and appreciation of many local musicians and music-lovers, including Colin Thompson, founder of the Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival. In 2015 the festival awarded Steph with a Maton guitar, donated to the festival by Coopers, to encourage her musical endeavours.
When she was 16, Steph and her guitar teacher/mentor Serhiy Strazhnik recorded her first EP in his home studio, which was released to the public 12 months later in 2016. The EP titled ‘First of May’ has opened many doors for her, and today her audience grows as she plays more and more gigs around Victoria, building a promising career in the music industry.
Steph writes what she feels. Her music is relaxing, moving, inspiring and even sometimes confronting. She’s adored by all those who hear her voice and witness her gorgeously honest songwriting.
