Guys I need help! My mare had her colt 3 days ago unattended, we came out to him standing and walking around with Mom. He seemed to be nursing well and all was looking good. Yesterday he went down and we could not get him on his feet. Vet checked is Igg levels and it came back extremely low. We immediately began bottle feeding with Mare's Match and a lamb nipple and he did very well overnight and through most of today. Eating anywhere from 6-20 ounces every hour. Fed him from a bucket this afternoon and he did well. Dam still has very sticky golden colored milk and colt will only latch for 30-45 seconds before giving up. He went down again this evening and was conpletely unresponsive. I gave a couple syringes of honey at my vets recommendation and he has gotten back up for a very short period of time before laying down again, but he is refusing both bottle and bucket now. Tried to give milk in a syringe and he wouldn't swallow and just let it run out of his mouth. His lower lip is drooping, heart rate is slow, breathing shallow and eyes have a glazed looked to them. Is there anything else I can do for this little guy or is it time to put him down? I would hate to lose him but I can't stand watching him just lay here and suffer either. Vet told me this evening when I called that he could come take a look but he doesn't think there is anything else he can do for him.
