Last time I moved I literally carried everything six blocks to my new place and ordered what I needed since at the time I didn’t have any large furniture of my own. I’m planning to move from UES to lower Manhattan in June but want to start thinking about it now given that I have some time to research. Do movers provide boxes? If not, is it best to get cardboard boxes or rent plastic bins? How far ahead of the move should you pack everything up? How much would you recommend tipping the movers? Any recommendations for good movers? Any advice for timing everything right? Apologies if some of the questions sound silly. Any advice is appreciated!

I've started putting in some requests for quotes, and I have to say that it's much more expensive than I expected given that my move should be fairly straightforward. Does anyone have tips (or even specific movers) to recommend? I don't have anything too valuable or fragile at the moment, so would really just want the cheapest option.

I offered to help load boxes, but they wouldn't let me lift a finger. I had a friend who used citymove.com and was pleased with her experience. You put in as much detailed information as possible + your price range, and movers will place bids.
