  the problem in DC is you can get a hotel outside of DC but the fare to go in DC daily added to your hotel, might be worth staying in a hotel in DC, specially for 4 person family, we also drove to PA where Hershey amusement park is at and also did a mine tour which was interesting http://www.pioneertunnel.com/
