Type one requires insulin for the rest of his life because the pancreas no longer produces insulin. It is considered an auto immune disease and genetic. There is no family history. I understand type 1 cannot be reversed, but have read in few places that there are some foods that help restore the functionality of beta cells in the pancreas that helps to generate insulin production.
